1 Introduction Let C be a nonempty convex subset of a real normed space E. The map T : C [right arrow] C is said to be asymptotically nonexpansive[8] if there exists a sequence {[k.sub.n]} [subset] [1, [infinity]) with [lim.sub.n[right arrow][infinity] [k.sub.n] = 1 such that [parallel] [T.sup.n] x - [T.sup.n]y [parallel] [less than or equal to] [k.sub.n] [parallel] x - y [parallel] for all x, y [member of] C and for all n [greater than or equal to] 1; it becomes nonexpansive if [k.sub.n] = 1 for all n [greater than or equal to] 1. The set of fixed points of T is denoted by F(T) = [x : Tx = x}.
